ETX and Com-Express CPU Modules
Two mezzanine formats intended to simplify the implementation of a PC within a larger piece of equipment. Both ETX and Com-Express are industry standard formats available from a number of different manufacturers. For each format a standard carrier motherboard is available for development purposes. In a typical finished product the OEM would produce his own carrier enabling space, shape and interface considerations to be taken into account. The benefit is that the complex CPU design with its’ incumbent sourcing, obsolescence and BIOS issues are taken care of by the specialist board supplier. Additionally updating to a later CPU is possible without re-designing the whole system.
